Time to Teach!
Wow - this portfolio has covered a lot of material. Through this course, I have learned about different types of technology that I can include in my normal classroom activities, as well as a wide variety of ways that I can use online courses or webpages to give my students a good introduction to the use of the web for educational research, as well as opportunities to interact with the wide variety of wonderful sources and virtual learning activities that exist online. I have also had the opportunity to learn about the global educational network and how I can tap into that in order to improve my own teaching skills throughout my future as a teacher.
I still have a lot to learn. While I am comfortable using technology on a regular basis, I cannot wait to get into a classroom and start to test how technology will best benefit my students. Whether I use it minimally or on a regular basis, I intend for technology to be an additional boost to student learning - not a way for students to avoid learning by passively watching or clicking on the screen. I want my students to be able to connect in a personal, real way to me, to their classmates and to what they are learning - so some face-to-face interaction is going to be a definite requirement in my classes. However, as my students show their maturity in real life relationships to people and academic knowledge, they will be able to interact well with the global and digital society. They are not going to learn that interaction without some practice, and I want to start practicing with them when I get into the classroom.
It is important that as I begin student teaching, I make a concerted effort to incorporate some of these technological tips and tricks into my classroom. I will need to be able to think outside the box and really invest time and thought into where technology will best engage and excite my students about learning. I cannot wait to see where student teaching will take me in my endeavor to be a great teacher for the glory of God and the salvation of souls!
